How to buy tealights?

by Decor8 Admin 15 Dec 2025

Small candle classics

Handy tea lights are a must in every household, because such a small candle light can do much more than just keep tea warm in the teapot warmer.

What are tea lights made of and what makes them special?

  • In the small, often white, round candles with a diameter of just a few centimeters, the wick is locked in the wax with a wick holder .
  • When burned, the wax usually liquefies completely, so that at the end of the several hours of burning time there is nothing left.
  • Tea lights are often made of 100% paraffin or paraffin wax or real wax or beeswax.
  • In most cases, they are encased in a small, round container that can be made of aluminum, plastic or another metal.
  • In tealight holders, tealights create a warm atmosphere and pleasant light in the room while remaining a subtle part of your interior. This way, you can enjoy your cup of tea even more beautifully in the cold season.
  • You can use tea lights in many different ways and reuse them several times until they burn out.
  • You can use them in fragrance lamps for a special aroma, in a tealight glass as a decorative element at Christmas time, on an Advent wreath or classically under a teapot warmer to keep the tea warm.

What shapes of tea lights are there?

With a certain touch

Most of the time, the scent of burning tea lights is neutral. However, among the small classic candles there are also special versions that give off a very specific scent when they burn : for example, vanilla. You can find a wider selection in the scented candles section.

With special shape

White and round – that’s how we know the tea light. But it doesn’t always have to be like that: Also often in an aluminum round, tea lights are also available in other colors such as gold and in detailed and lovingly designed shapes, for example in the shape of an owl, a pen or a small golden Christmas tree. Actually, it’s far too good to burn down.

With another energy source

The risk of fire with real candles in your home is too great for you. Perhaps you have small children in the household and don’t want to take any risks. Then electric, i.e. battery-operated LED tea lights are the right choice for you. Equipped with an on and off button, there is no risk of burns, fire or soot with the electric light – and instead of the entire tea light, you only have to change the battery every now and then. Some LED tea lights have a remote control and a timer with which you can start a “burning time” of four or eight hours, for example.

With colorful packaging

It doesn’t always have to be tealight glasses: Tealights in special tins decorated with pretty motifs or greetings are particularly good as gifts . To use the candle with these models, you simply have to open the lid of the tin to light the wick.

What else do I need to know about these little candles? 7 tips

  1. Do you use tea lights often? Then a large pack is worth it for you: There are packs with 100 to 1,000 tea lights at a special price.
  2. You can drape tea lights in tea light holders or glasses and use them to decorate your living room and bedroom.
  3. If simple glasses are too boring for you, you can place floating tea lights without aluminum in a glass bowl filled with water .
  4. Tea lights burn for different lengths of time. Manufacturers usually indicate the burn time on the packaging, for example four, six or eight hours depending on the size and height.
  5. Make sure you turn off all tea lights when you are finished using them or when you leave the room. This way they will last longer and you won’t run the risk of fire.
  6. Once your tea light in the aluminum circle has burned out, you should let it cool down completely.
  7. Then you dispose of it in the household waste or – even better – in the recycling bin.
